Okay, my "system" for shorts is not original except I've probably perverted the original, which is based on ABCZ, and Harrie's method (I think) for adding dosages. One change I made was to maintain the ABC idea even if the drug was more than 1 word. To differentiate I use just the first letter of the second word.
anax = Anaprox
anad = Anaprox DS
I use IT, transitioned from Smartype, and being so new, one additional 'cheat' I use is to let IT help me remember what a given drug is commonly prescribed for. I first enter each new drug as a 1 letter 'Word' and for the expansion I include the most common ailment in parentheses. The parentheses jump out at me so that even if I happen to mis-type and enter that word (instead of the 3+ letter short phrase) I'm not likely to miss it in my report. I'm not going to include those in this list since I suspect most people won't find it useful, but as an example:
b = Benicar (hypertension)
benr = Benicar
benr4 = Benicar 40 mg
benr2 = Benicar 20 mg
benr5 = Benicar 5 mg
Also, with IT, I don't worry too much about having duplicate shorts - so there are some, and my doses may seem a little odd, at times they drag on 'coz I know, with IT, I can type as little or as much as I'd like.
Since I'm just starting out, I don't know a common dose or drug from and uncommon one yet, so I just used D&D's Pharmaceutical Word Book (2003) and started with "A". Any doses not found in the Word Book come from
Drug Information Center. If I couldn't find it there I left it alone.
