You know, that is really, really interesting! The way that you've incorporated the mg part with the rest of it! I've never done that. It seems really neat!

Absolutely everyone, I imagine, gets the p.o.q.d. and other combos in their expander almost immediately, it's such a pain to type them manually, but I think it's really neat the way you have them in an all-in-one type of way. And OMG, where has my mind been.....not at least having e46h for "every 4 to 6 hours?"

Thanks a lot for the great post, Georg! :thumb
Harrie
I think I'm going to expand my horizons starting today with this suggestion. I already have mg in my abbreviations; for instance, for Lasix 20 mg, I have las20, but I think I'm going to start adding one with an end, like las20b for Lasix 20 mg b.i.d., las20t for Lasix 20 mg t.i.d., las20qd for Lasix 20 mg q.d., las20pq for Lasix 20 mg p.o. q.d., and etc. Sure, it'll take me awhile, but I have a feeling this will be great!

Trying to append all the dosages to all the drugs is likely to drive you crazy, Harrie. It's also likely to result in a huge glossary.

If we ever get more actual contributors here, though, it might make sense to start up a group project, such as compiling a list of shorts for usual dosages for the most common drugs. Someone volunteer to do A drugs, someone to do B drugs, etc., then we could post one list of all of them that could be accessed by the members who actually post here, or maybe even post several different lists, one configured for ShortHand import, one for IT, one for AutoCorrect, and one for QuickCorrect? If people put together a list, I don't mind running it through Excel some weekend to concatenate it in the different formats required for those imports.

Any of the lurking newbies interested in collaborating on a mutual-help project like that?

Kitty3_anim.gif
Harrie
But.....it won't drive me crazy! The payoff is worth it to me! I already have lots and lots and lots and LOTS with the dosages already in there! LOL.

I'll see what your suggestion brings, though! Very cool idea!
cider
Lurking newbie here willing to help. Give me a letter. Although you might end up with some not so common drugs &/or dosages (being new it's sort of a crap shoot for me to decide if it is common or not), I think I'd just use the D&D Word Book. I have been feeling guilt for borrowing all these wonderful lists and not contributing...you gals are just LIGHT YEARS ahead of me!
14tonks
Cider, how great of you to be the first to volunteer!

Tell ya what, first come, first served, so you can pick your own letter. Just start a new topic titled something like Drugs and dosages, and post saying which letter you are working on. Then if someone else wants to chip in, they'll know to post their claim on a different one. Once you have something together, just post it to that thread, and we'll see if this snowball grows.

I'll collect whatever lists are posted to the "Drugs and dosages" topic on a spreadsheet here. Once there's a good collection from different posts, I can format the consolidated list, and Harrie can then figure out the best way to make it available to all the contributors - download, copy and paste from one post that has it all, or whatever.

This is cool! Tonks, wonderful suggestion.....and Cider!! Thank you very, very much! That's fantastic! Sure can't go wrong with D&D! Tremendous offer! shake.gif
sono_io
This is a fantastic idea! Add me to the list of newbies wanting to contribute! I'll volunteer for "A" if it isn't taken. It'll take me a while, but I'll be working on it!

Cider, Appendix D of the D&D book lists the most-prescribed drugs - maybe that will save you (and me!) some of the guesswork, since we can't rely on experience!

Is there any consensus on the format of the entries? I honestly don't have enough experience yet to have a preference - any of you "oldsters" (is that politically correct, as the more experienced counterpart to "newbies" icon_bolt.gif ??? ) have any suggestions to help us achieve some consistency with this?

For example, for Accupril:
Acc5mg
Acc10mg
Acc20mg
Acc40mg
Is this format adequate/helpful? Let me know!

Also, the D&D book doesn't list the dosage frequencies. Is there another place to look, or would the mg or mL dosage be enough?

sono_io
Harrie
Sono, how completely awesome of you to offer! I'm telling you, with contributions like this, well, it's just tremendous!

Cider has taken A, so I guess I'd suggest B, LOL.

So far as the consensus, I don't think we really got to that. It's easy enough to alter them to the exact way we all prefer them. You can see the pinned list in this forum to see how Cider did it. I don't feel really strongly about having it one certain way, I mean, that's a lot of work just doing it and it's so appreciated! I do mine like you have it, actually, although I don't put the mg in the short form. For instance, I have:

alt5 = Altace 5 mg
alt10 = Altace 10 mg

And, as said, I think this was going to be for the most common drugs and most common dosages. I don't know, personally, I feel however a person wants to do it, but I welcome input. We might as well get this straight now, while we're at the beginning! But I do think people can take the simple step of altering them for themselves if they should wish to.
14tonks
If you just want to do the most common "A" or "B" drugs, that's good. If you want to go through all the D&D drugs for the letter and then add some extra entries with dosages for the most common, that would be great, but I agree it's a lot of work. I think whatever anyone wants to do. If someone else comes along who want to fill in more detail once the initial post is up, it can just keep growing.

Sono_io, I'll go add you to the posted signup for letter B, unless you want something else, as cider is already working on A.
