Full Version: ShortHand not working well with eScription

I'm about to go crazy. I recently started working part time for a company that uses eScription for editing. I absolutely cannot get SH to work properly with this program. It continuously goes "back" to the beginning of the expanded word/phrase, back spaces to the previous work, and deletes the first letter of the expansion itself.

For example, I'm trying to do cardiovascular regular rate and rhythm and SH gives me cardiovasculaegular rate and rhythm.

I've made every kind of adjustment I can think of and cannot get it to stop doing it. In any other program, SH works exactly like it always but not in eScription. Can anyone help a girl out? I cannot work without my SH!

Welcome to PT!

eScription uses Word, doesn't it? This is pretty much a guess, but try the following in Word:

Go to Tools, Edit tab, now uncheck "use smart cut and paste" if it is selected.

I am having exactly this same issue.

Anyone out there with a solution to this or a suggestion of something to try? I'm thinking there may have been something similar posted way in the past (maybe not same platform, but similar behavior), but I'm not having any luck finding it.

I did double-check, and "Smart Cut and Paste" is not turned on in my Word setup.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has any insight.

(Also -- I have the SH-friendly version of ActiveWords installed. I exited that just to see, and I'm still having the same issue.)

Here's what I've done, based on a reply from the folks at ShortHand, and it has greatly improved things, though not 100% of the time.

Go into Preferences, "uncheck" Verify Target Window Receives Keystrokes, then set Pause to 40 msec after every 1 Keystroke.

Like I said, it's not a 100% fix, still get a missing first letter on expanded word/phrase now and again, but at least I can use it and get some work done, albeit a bit slower than I'd like.

I'm working out a 2-week-notice with the company using eScription in any case, so won't have to deal with it much longer. Not that that's relevent to this conversation. grin.gif

Hope this might help you.

Thanks doodlebug2. I did contact SH tech support, and they gave me the same thing to try, provided by another SH/Editscript user. Seems to be working OK now. Thanks very much for taking the time to respond! thanks.png thanks.png
