I'm in a real panic here. I'm doing training on Emdat/Inscribe. I did link IT with the demo/training, and can't get it to work. IT is there all right, and it shows it as linked, but when I type nothing comes up in either word or phrase advisories. Is it just because it's the training thing? It does have a built in expander, AutoText but I don't want that. I want my IT. Appreciate any help I can get.

I've been using InScribe for a couple of weeks now, and IT works okay with it. It links, and the words and phrases all expand. My only problem has been with adding words to IT. Sometimes when I click and drag it doesn't highlight the words. Also, when it does happen to highlight the words, sometimes the text area comes up empty, and sometimes it is filled in with the words I had added previously, so I've been typing in the words into IT instead. I'm using the latest version of InScribe and the latest version of Instant Text.

I tried using the transcribe in Word feature, but it caused problems with paragraphing. Then I discovered that Control+Tab made the transcription screen full size and that increasing the font size to 150 made it a lot easier to read, so I've been okay with typing in InScribe. What I do when I'm done with a dictation, through, is copy it to Word, so I can spellcheck with Stedman's Spellchecker, and then I save it in Word so I can compile it later with other files. When I spellcheck in InScribe, I already know which words really are spelled incorrectly, so I watch out for them. I've been adding a lot of words to InScribe's dictionary.

I hope this was helpful.

Thanks, Shirley. I'm just doing the training on InScribe and that might be why I can't get IT to work right now. This training business is a great big pain in my butt though. I all just seems so complicated. I've already gone through it once and will do it again later tonight, probably tomorrow too, at least once toothless.gif The control tab tip will be a good one I think. I'm thinking trying to type in that itty-bitty box could be frustrating as I'm just used to word where there is lots of room.

I also see this is your first post here. Welcome to PT, and thanks a whole bunch for your help.

I am using Emdat with IT, and found that whatever is the last thing I copied and therefore still on the clipboard is what will show up when I try to paste a new word or phrase into IT. So I always copy the word or phrase, which I do by holding the shift key and using the left arrow to highlight letter by letter or shift + ctrl and then move the arrow to highlight word by word then use ctrl + c to copy it and alt + = to enter it into IT.

It does tend to add an extra line under what I copied so I hit shift + tab to get up into the window and hit backspace to delete that and then tab once and enter and it is entered into IT.

Sounds complicated, but once you get it figured out it is a lot faster than using your mouse or having to use Word to put in your entries. Let me know if this works for you.

I am so glad to have found this board. I cannot get my Instant Text with EMDAT at all. I can't make it link together at all. I currently have two jobs that I use it for so any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA
Harrie
Welcome, rkjmom. Glad to have you!

Well, when you click the arrow icon for the link dialog, do you see EMDAT/InScribe listed there? If so, have you tried it both with and without the link automatically option checked? I would think checking it would be optimal, naturally. Just trying to determine if even these components are working for you. What is checked under Link Options?
