I'm beginning work for a new company and they use InScribe. That is what she had me download. I have an INFINITY FOOT PEDAL, WILL THIS WORK? If it will, how do I make it work? I've tried what some of the other pedals say to do to "program" it, but it doesn't work. On here there are posting about ExpressScribe, which I don't know if I can use that instead of InScribe or not....I don't think I can, she had me download InScribe specifically. IF THEY ARE LINKED TOGETHER, INSCRIBE and EXPRESSSCRIBE, then would the Infinity pedal work? Lastly, if Infinity will not work with InScribe, is anyone interested in trading pedals? I'm serious. It's brand spanking new,,,if you can use the Infinity, I sure need a pedal I can use with InScribe.

I don't know anything about InScribe--hopefully some folks who do will be along shortly--but it would help if you gave the exact model number of your foot pedal. Foot pedals are all different, all wired differently, and VEC actually uses the Infinity brand for a series of pedals. Please indicate if this is a USB, serial port, or game port pedal and what it's exact model number is. That will make it easier to tell if someone who says they have a pedal working with InScribe actually has the exact same pedal as you do.

Welcome, Rosey.

I'm going to move this topic to our Inscribe forum for you. That may give it better exposure to the proper people.

Well, I am also starting with a new company that uses InScribe, which I'm going through training on now. I was told that my Infinity foot pedal would NOT work with it, and the company that I'm going to work for sent me a new pedal. All it says on the bottom is IN-PI. The paperwork with it says it is product #30678. It says it is a "Start Stop pedal power for Emdat Player". Must be a special pedal for Emdat only, as it will not work with anything else. If I'm going to work in Word for the other company I work for, I have to hook my Infinity pedal back up. HTH

Hmmmm. PI Engineering sells a custom VEC pedal called the X-keys Foot Pedal. It does function completely differently from a standard foot pedal, and so it would not be compatible with most wave players. However, I believe Transcribe! works with the PI pedal as well as the standard VEC Infinity pedal and some others. I wonder if anyone reading happens to have both the InScribe pedal and the Transcribe! player? It would be interesting to know if Transcribe! might be an option for a standard wave player that could be used with other companies' software for those with the InScribe Emdat pedal who would prefer not having to purchase or deal with multiple pedals. Maybe one of you with an InScribe pedal would like to download a free trial of Transcribe! from www.seventhstring.com and check it out? The latest versions are available at these links:

Hi! I'm using Transcribe! with InScribe. I brought Infinity's IN-PI foot pedal from DICTRAN, as suggested by the company I just started with, and I didn't like the double-press thing you have to do with the foot pedal because it's mimicking a toggle switch. I use another word processing program, too, and I frankly wasn't interested in using a foot pedal any differently.

I already had ExpressScribe, so I updated to the latest version and tried that with InScribe using my USB pedal. It worked okay, but for reasons I can't really remember I wasn't happy with it. I think I was getting kind of a yawing sound when I slowed the speed down.

Anyway, I had read 14Tonks' glowing review of Transcribe!, so I thought I'd give that a try. It was so great to have another option! I downloaded the 30-day free trial about a week ago, and I like it. I use it with the Infinity USB pedal. The sound is nice and clear, and when you change the speed of the dictation, it is very responsive. I'm still investigating the different features. Not being a musician biggrin.gif , a lot of it's over my head, but I did manage to set up some global shortcut keys for different predefined speed settings than the ones already set up, and I expect I'll like that very much.

I should mention that since you aren't using InScribe's built-in audio player you have to open each file yourself with both ExpressScribe and Transcribe! The sound doesn't start automatically when you start a dictation.

Thanks for the welcome, Marti! I'm glad to have something to contribute!

I do think Transcribe! it starting to get there as a really useful MT wave player--be sure to send suggestions for MT features and additional improvements to Andy at seventhstring, as he has really just started to add and modify for what we need, and would like varied input. There are, of course, features and settings in it that are really only useful for music transcription, but one doesn't have to tangle with those--just use the MT settings and features. I think a built-in equalizer and sound editing features is a fantastic improvement over the usual wimpy MT wave player when it comes to hearing difficult dictation, but the program certainly could use some other improvements from the MT perspective, so keep those e-mails flowing to the developer.

Since you apparently have both the IN-PI pedal and the Infinity USB pedal, can you answer the question as to whether Transcribe! will also work with the IN-PI pedal? I know you don't care for the way that pedal works, but it would be useful for others to know if it can be used with the Transcribe! program. biggrin.gif

Hi, I'm back! I had planned to use the IN-PI foot pedal with Transcribe! this morning, to see if it would work, but I never got that far. To make a long story a lot shorter, it seems that when I chose my USB pedal to work with Transcribe!, I lost the option to use other foot pedals. Under File, Foot Pedals, Status, Configure, I only see the USB choice. I may be missing something obvious, though... I've been known to do that!

I checked at Seventh String's web site, and it says it recognizes "Macro," gameport, and USB pedals, so the IN-PI foot pedal should work. It sounds like it's a macro pedal.

If anyone has any ideas on how to make this work, I'll be happy to try them.
