Hey guys:
I recently bought the book Saving Keystrokes from Stedman's. I am loving some of the ideas I have found inside.
One I liked was for time:
1p=1 p.m.
13p=1:30 p.m.
12m=12 midnight
12n=12noon
2a=2 a.m.
23a=2:30 a.m.
Can't wait to get this one into my expander.
Another idea I liked was that of identifying individual words that have a common thread like - megaly, using meg as the common thread you get:
omeg=organomegaly
hmeg=hepatomegaly
smeg=splenomegaly
hsmeg=hepatosplenomegaly
cmeg=cardiomegaly
tmeg=thyromegaly
I think this makes it really easy to remember these.
Another one was -mycin.
emyc=erythromycin
vmyc=vancomycin
tmyc=tobramycin
cmyc=clindamycin
azmyc=azithromycin
and -caine
lcain=lidocaine
mcain=Marcaine
bcain=bupivacaine
ncain=Novocain
ccain=Cetacaine
xcain=Xylocaine
dmed=Depo-Medrol
smed=Solu-Medrol
Another suggestion was for 2-word drugs:
tper=Tessalon Perles
dsod=docusate sodium
hper=hydrogen peroxide
I'm using a lot more of the "grow method" or maybe it's a modified "grow".
This book has so many good ideas, it has gotten me all excited again about working to build up my expander!
Hope you guys are having a great weekend./bj

Your excitement shows, Jettybo! Thank you so much for posting this. Some very nice ideas there. I especially like the "cain" ones.
Sounds like an excellent book, both from your comments and those of other board members, I must say.

Hey, thanks from me too. I've also heard lots and lots of good things about the book, but your samples of what's actually in there has pushed me to order it. Just sounds too darned good to pass up. Thanks for the post.

I got that book a couple of weeks ago and LOVE it! I really like all of the different ways to do shortcuts. I'm not that great at creating shortcuts, but this book has made it soooo much easier for me. There is finally a method to my madness!!
Congrats on your book and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

For those who may not have thought about it, Amazon has several of these listed as used books that you can get for one-third to one-half off the price.
