What is your system for % signs. I hate reaching up to type this annoying little character!

If you are restricted to the alphabet in your shorts, you could just use pc.
If you can use numbers or symbols, you could use 5 or 55 instead of hitting the cap, or you could follow numbers with just //.

For percent signs I use p... as in 50p. For pulse, I switch it…p50.

I am using AHK for these. I don't know if (point%) as in 00.0% will work the same on your expansion program. It works with ahk.
