Does anyone know of a good way to abbreviate these in Autocorrect? They aren’t sticking in my head…

Complaining of
Complain of
Complains of
Complaint of
Complaints of

And also…

Apparently
Approximately
Appropriately
Harrie
Those are good ones to ask about, Suzanne. The confusing, conflicting, dangerous type. yellowupset.gif

I sure would like to see other answers besides my own!

For apparent and apparently, I'm not sure when I started this or why, but I find it works well:

jap = apparent
japy = apparently

For the complain variations, these are possibilities, not necessarily the greatest in the world, for sure:

cof = complain of
cofg = complaining of
cofs = complains of
coft = complaint of
cofts = complaints of

Another bizarre one, with the hap at the beginning for approximate words, just to differentiate is why I suppose I like them:

hap = approximate
hapy = approximately

And then, for appropriate words:

appe = appropriate
appy = appropriately
apps = appropriateness
iappe = inappropriate
iappy = inappropriately

How odd that the "complaining" issue should arise--I was just working on this today...

This is what I use, although it may cause conflicts for others. (In case you're wondering what's with the "x" in each, here's the story: When I started my job, everything in the existing expander list ended with an "x"--I was told that the reason for that was to prevent accidental expansions or something. Be that as it may, I got used to it, and now use it in my own abbreviations, as I like the way it divides my "root" expander and the various letters I add to them to change tense, add prefixes, suffixes, etc.)

COMPLAINING:
cox complains of
coxd complained of ("d" for past tense)
coxg complaining of ("g" for -ing)
hcox he complains of
scox she complains of
tpcox the patient complains of
hicoxg he is complaing of
sicoxg she is complaining of
tpicoxg the patient is complaining of

ctox complaint of
ctoxs complaints of
wactox with a complaint of
wctoxs with complaints of
noctxs no other complaints
noctx no other complaint
hhactox he has a complaint of
hhactoxd he had a complaint of (the "d" for past tense)

APPARENTLY
aptx apparent
aptxy apparently

APPROXIMATELY
apx approximate
apxy approximately

APPROPRIATELY
appx appropriate
appxy appropriately
iappx inappropriate
iappxy inappropriately

Hope this is of some help, and doesn't appear too weird...

This is a good topic! Too bad we can't work without complaints... When I first started, I wondered why everything was so negative.

Here's what I had worked out (and a good example of why a system helps - I only remember the first 6). I'll lift liberally from the others though for more.

cso = complains of
cdo = complained of
cto = complaints of
cgo = complaining of
cno = complain of
dnec = denies any complaints (because dn is denies, ne is any, dne = denies any)
dnhc = denies having complaints
dnhec = denies having any complaints
dneco = denies any complaints of
dnhco = denies having complaints of
dnheco = denies having any complaints of
compd = complained
compg = complaining
compt = complaint
comps = complaints
compn = complain
cplg = complaining
cploc = couple of complaints
cpls = complains
cplt = complaint
cplz = complaints
cpln = complain
nnc = no new complaints
nocos = no complaints
nucos = neurological complaints
ownnc = Otherwise, no new complaints.
ownonc = otherwise, no other new complaints
wcco = with a cheif complaint of
hcc = CHEIF COMPLAINT:
chcom = cheif complaint
woco = without complaint
wocos = without complaints
wocoo = without complaints of
complaing = complaining (because if I forget and type it out, this is how I misspell it)

I forgot a few things. As usuall. cowblink.gif

Approx will ALWAYS be my short for approximately. It's stuck in my brain from notes in school.

appro = approximate
approx = approximately

appr = appropriate
appry = appropriately
apprs = appropriates
apprn = appropriateness
apprd = appropriated
apprg = appropriating
iappr = inappropriate
iappry = inappropriately
iapprn = inappropriateness

I'm glad you asked for apparent- I NEVER remember these (obviously, or it would not be doubled).
apa = apparent
apay = apparently
apre = apparent
aprey = apparently
hjy = he apparently
inapd = in no apparent distress
napd = no apparent distress (also nobd = no obvious distress)
sjy = she apparently
tpjy = patient apparently

I never added the additional word...gasp! I know, I know..tsk, tsk.

This is what I have

cmp = complain
cmpg = complaining
cmpt = complaint
cmps = compains
cmpd = complained

cmpl = complete
cmpld = completed

Thanks to everyone who responded here. You've all got some good ideas for these problem abbreviations.

I suddenly got very, very busy so am not able to post too much here at the moment. However, I'm sure that will change without notice and I'll be more active.

Thanks again!
